Christmas time at Driftwood Stays

Christmas Driftwood Stays

So here we are in November already and I heard on the radio this morning that there are literally 6 weeks left in 2023!  Where does the time go??…

Anyway… with Halloween and Bonfire night now a memory, the kids back in school and on the home straight to the festive holidays, it seems to be acceptable to discuss the “C ” word!

Christmas and the festive season are a great time to come and stay in our self-catering holiday cottages.  There is so much to do around us, for both families and couples. We thought we’d share a few of our favourites, to give you some inspiration.

Firstly, if we turn to the holiday cottages themselves, for a winter holiday, they are both very well equipped.  Not only are they very well insulated with thermostat controlled central heating, both Driftwood Corner and Little Driftwood have log burners with logs and kindling supplied.  You can snuggle up by the fire on those colder, longer evenings and watch a film or play some board games.

The beach on your doorstep, can be wild in the winter with the Atlantic storms rolling in. A bracing walk in the sea air is so good for the soul.  One of our guests recently told us “there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing!”  Love this philosophy to live by – a walk along the ever-changing beach landscape everyday, will definitely blow the cobwebs away!

If we turn to some more festive specific activities, there are some wonderful options to get involved in nearby, so read on for some inspiration:

1. Arundel by Candlelight

Arundel is already a wonderful place to visit – (check out our Arundel Festival blog for other ideas at different times of the year), but at Christmas, usually the first weekend in December, the town puts on a magical evening with a Christmas market and a candlelight procession.

2.”Illuminated” at Leondardslea

About a 35 minute drive from Driftwood Stays is “Leonardslea” – beautiful gardens and a lake, open all year, but at Christmas time, they put on an amazing light trail in the evenings, which is magical for adults and children alike.  There is also a Christmas market and funfair rides to add to the fun.

Glow Wild Wakehurst | West Sussex | Christmas Short Breaks

3.Glow Wild at Wakehurst

We went to this ourselves last year and even managed to catch it in the snow!  It’s a bit further afield into East Sussex (just under an hour’s drive from our holiday lets) but the lantern installations are wonderful and the handheld lanterns the kids can carry around the trail themselves, are very popular.

4. Sail to Santa at Arundel Wetlands

Who would NOT want to get on board an “elf-powered” boat and sail through the reeds to visit Santa??!  Our younger guests would definitely get a Santa visit to remember!

Both Driftwood Corner and Little Driftwood are booked for Christmas and New Year already and Driftwood Corner is already booked for Christmas and New Year 2024 as well!  So if you want to come and stay for Christmas or New Year, you have to be quick!  We do have some availability for a pre-Christmas break though, to either get you in the Christmas spirit or to escape the mayhem for a few days, get some sea air and re-energise for the over-indulgence that’s coming!
