When you have lived by the sea for over 25 years, you can sometimes take it a little bit for granted. Three years of running seaside holiday lets with all kinds of different guests coming through the doors, has shown us that the overriding reason for people coming to stay with us, is to be by the sea.
There’s just something so relaxing about the seaside. You breathe in that air (it’s different right?) and an inner peace just kind of sets in. In today’s world, where everyone is so busy rushing around, whether in their job, or around the kids, it’s no wonder our guests want a piece of seaside tranquility in their lives every now and then!
So what makes a Driftwood Stays getaway so special? Well, where else can you go and stay in the UK, without paying a small fortune, where the beach is literally on your doorstep? Furthermore a dog friendly one, 365 days of the year!
We are regular visitors to both Cornwall and Devon, have spent a lot of time on the North Norfolk coast and dream about visiting the Hebrides in Scotland. All of these places have beautiful beaches, that quite rightly, deserve the reputation they have. But, one thing they all have in common, is that it is quite hard to find affordable, self-catering accommodation where you can walk to the beach in a minute.
With a Driftwood Stays holiday, you can walk to the beach… every day. You can also walk into the vibrant village of East Preston, with a good choice of cafes/restaurants and pubs to suit all tastes. You can be right by the beach, but with all the convenience you need on your doorstep too. Furthermore, the beauty of these seaside holiday cottages is that they are only an hour and half’s drive from London and the home counties.
Every day in Driftwood Corner or Little Driftwood is a beach day… quite literally. No queues to get onto the beaches, no parking issues once you get to the beach. Just a few short steps and there you are, breathing in that fresh, sea air.
In the winter months, you can look forward to dramatic seas, bracing windswept walks and some wonderful finds, such as driftwood or sea glass. Fuel up your walks with loaded hot chocolates, barista coffee and delicious cakes at the various cafes dotted along the coast; the vast majority of which, are dog friendly.
In Autumn and Spring you will be rewarded with the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets, to rival anywhere in the world. The beach is quiet and you can often have it to yourselves at this time of year.
And then of course there’s the more obvious choice – the summer months. The sea temperature warms up and the beach forms a lagoon from mid to low tide which offers safe swimming, or paddle boarding for the more active. Taking a picnic or fish’n’chips, with some beers or wine to the beach to enjoy the sun going down, is a great way to spend an evening.
The beach is an ever changing landscape. Each storm that comes through affects the sand and the rockpools, which is part of what makes it such wonderful place to spend time, as every day is different.
Every day at the beach is a day well spent!
