Introducing Little Driftwood! Our gorgeous, new, little holiday cottage is the perfect seaside escape for couples. We have already had a lot of interest from people right here in the village, as it provides a great option for their visiting family members.
Driftwood Haven was a popular house for our guests and we know some will be sad it’s no longer available to rent, but our family dynamics changed (as they do) and we needed our house back. We always set up Driftwood Stays with the idea that we could be flexible with which properties we could rent, so from now on we will be offering Driftwood Corner for families ( sleeps 8) and Little Driftwood for couples (sleeps 2/3).
The two houses are next door to each other, so this also offers the possibility of renting them both at the same time. We already have one family doing this next summer. One side of the family with the younger children are taking Driftwood Corner and the extra adults are joining them for the same week, in Little Driftwood. Near enough to be together, but far enough away to have peace and quiet when needed! A good option for Granny and Grandad perhaps?!
W always had our eye on the house behind us, since we first moved to East Preston 17 years ago. It was very run down, but we knew it had huge potential and was filled with character. We bought the house in 2020 (during Covid) and spent the next 18 months renovating the main house and building Little Driftwood. We used the original footprint of the annexe and extended the garage forwards by 5m, to create the space we needed, to make it a home for two! Then we separated the annexe from the main house, so each had their own space and privacy. And so Driftwood Corner and Little Driftwood were born!
The holiday homes share a driveway, but that’s it. The beauty of Little Driftwood is that you really wouldn’t know it was there unless someone told you. The front door is tucked away down the side of the garage. Everyone who comes in has the same reaction: “WOW, who knew this was hiding behind here!”
The word “annexe”, tends to be associated with small spaces, added onto properties for a dependent to live in. We designed this annexe to be full of light and space, as we knew we actually wanted to live in it ourselves. The combination of the vaulted ceiling in the kitchen, multiple Velux windows and a roof light in the lounge area, has created exactly that; the result being it’s a wonderful private house for two, we think anyone would be happy to spend time in.
With over 60m2 of accommodation, Little Driftwood has everything you need for daily life. The kitchen is a decent size and really well equipped. There is an upstairs home office/spare bedroom with fibre optic broadband, invaluable for those who need to keep up with the office while away, or come and stay for a workation. In fact, Little Driftwood actually lends itself well to longer stays for one or two people, as it is just as well equipped as anybody’s home, not just for a holiday or short break.
The log burner is a joy! It’s a Chilli Penguin and has a small oven in the top. You can check out the Chilli Penguin website for recipe inspiration – but an easy win is baked camembert!
Every bit of space has been well thought out and put to good use. From the understairs pull out shoe storage, to the mezzanine, with pull down clothes airer and a cupboard, housing the washer/dryer. The downstairs shower/toilet is cleverly hidden behind a sliding door, so there is minimal invasion into the living area.
And then, there is the interior finish… trademark Driftwood Stays. Unique, comfortable and as you would expect, a lot of recycled materials have been used.
